Made in collaboration with SKY ARTS as part of as part of ‘Unlocked: What Does it Mean to be Free?’ this evocative film had to have a look that packed as much of a punch as its subject matter.
For Irish, Blacks and Dogs I worked very closely with the DOP to create a heavily atmospheric and contrast heavy grade, which didn’t obscure detail in the shadows or fall outside of Broadcast legal gamuts.
The film required a soft touch, as we explored a subtle inclusion of filmic emulation, without distracting too much from the original photography.
Lee came highly recommended to me for “Irish, Blacks & Dogs”. We were aiming for a very evocative, emotionally-charged look and Lee was instrumental in its realisation. The film also had very specific broadcast guidelines to adhere to, which Lee knew inside and out, making the entire process a breeze.
